The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia and the Union of Miners and Metallurgists of the country have agreed to establish an analytical center for the mining and metallurgical industry. A memorandum of cooperation was signed on October 17 at the Mining Armenia Forum 2026 by the head of the department, Davit Khudatyan, and the chairman of the union, Vardan Janyan.
The center will conduct industry research, evaluate state policy, and organize interaction between government agencies and private companies. Its task is to prepare an analytical basis for decision-making and discussing issues of sustainable development of the mining industry. However, the launch dates, structure, and funding sources for the project have not yet been disclosed.
According to Khudatyan, Armenia is becoming a more prominent participant in the international mining industry. In 2025, the volume of production in the mining and quarrying sector reached 514.7 billion drams, an increase of 6.4% over the year. In the first half of 2026, the indicator grew by 28.9% year-on-year, and the industry's share in total industrial production increased from 15.4% at the end of 2025 to 23.7%.
