Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has once again stated the need to change the management model of Armenian railways, which are currently under Russian concession. According to him, international companies are increasingly avoiding routes associated with Russian management, fearing possible sanction risks. Against this background, the country's authorities have concluded that the existing "concession logic" needs to be revised, despite the fact that the infrastructure itself is entirely owned by Armenia.
Pashinyan emphasized that the republic already has a ready-made railway infrastructure, which needs to be integrated into new regional transport corridors as quickly as possible. The authorities place special hopes on the potential opening of the Armenian-Turkish border. According to the Prime Minister, the launch of new directions can turn the country into an important transit hub between East and West and ensure a significant increase in freight revenue.
In addition, Armenia notes high international interest in the construction of new automobile routes through Tavush, Lori and Shirak. This includes modern toll freight roads, which can become part of a future regional transport corridor. The country's authorities expect that new roads and railway routes will allow Armenia to strengthen its position in the logistics of the South Caucasus.
