Europe intervenes: Armenia to receive urgent aid

Brussels promised Yerevan financial assistance and new trade opportunities

The European Union is preparing a support package for Armenia worth more than 50 million euros. This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, after a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan.

According to the head of the European Commission, one of the main topics of the negotiations was the recent restrictions imposed by Russia on Armenian products. Von der Leyen called such actions economic pressure and stated that the use of trade relations as a tool of political influence is unacceptable. In response, the EU intends to provide Armenia with prompt financial support.

The aid package provides not only for the allocation of funds, but also for measures to simplify the supply of certain Armenian goods to the European market, including agri-food products. Additional support will be provided to sectors that have already faced the consequences of restrictions, in particular floriculture. In addition, in the long term, Brussels intends to develop a partnership with Yerevan in the field of transport connectivity, which should strengthen Armenia's ties with Europe, the countries of the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
