The USA opened Armenia's access to advanced chip development technologies

Microchip received rare permission to create modern FPGA microcircuits by Armenian engineers

The US Department of Commerce has issued an export license to Microchip Technology, which allows its Armenian division to use American technologies and tools to develop modern FPGA programmable logic microcircuits. This refers to technologies, access to which outside the USA usually requires separate approval and strict adherence to security requirements.

FPGA chips are widely used in telecommunications equipment, industrial automation, automotive electronics, artificial intelligence systems, as well as in the aerospace and defense industries. The obtained license will allow Armenian specialists to participate not only in individual stages of development, but also in the full cycle of creating advanced solutions – from design to testing and verification of microcircuits.

The company came to Armenia in 2023 after acquiring Instigate Semiconductor and has since actively expanded its presence in the country. Engineering centers operate in Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor and Ijevan, and the number of employees has grown by 43% in recent years. According to the company, it became the first international semiconductor corporation in Armenia to receive such permission from the American authorities. The license creates conditions for the further development of the local microelectronics industry and the participation of Armenian engineers in creating products for the global semiconductor market.
