Armenia is actively expanding international cooperation in key strategic areas – from artificial intelligence to defense technologies. This was stated by the Ambassador of Armenia to the USA, Narek Mkrtchyan, in an interview with Axios.
According to the diplomat, Yerevan is pursuing a policy of diversification to strengthen sovereignty and reduce dependence on a single source of technology and resources. Priority areas include energy, security, supply chains, and AI development.
Mkrtchyan noted that Armenia is gradually changing its approach to defense cooperation. After decades of predominantly using Soviet-made weapons, the country began to develop partnerships with France, India, the USA, and other states, acquiring modern weapon systems, including equipment, artillery, and missile systems.
According to Axios, during the first visit of US Vice President J.D. Vance to Armenia in February 2026, an agreement was reached on the supply of American V-BAT drones from Shield AI.
The Ambassador emphasized that today Armenia receives various technological solutions from more than seven countries, and cooperation with the USA opens up new opportunities for access to advanced defense and digital technologies.
