The Government of Armenia has approved a reform that provides for the launch of an electronic queue management system for trucks at border crossing points. At the same time, special accumulation parking lots for vehicles waiting to cross the border will appear near the checkpoints.
According to Eduard Hakobyan, Chairman of the State Revenue Committee, the changes are aimed at simplifying export procedures and accelerating the movement of goods. Carriers will be able to register in advance through a special internet portal, receive information about the congestion of checkpoints and choose available parking lots. This should reduce the number of trucks that are currently forced to wait directly at the border.
Accumulation sites can be created by private investors if they comply with the requirements. They must be located no further than 20 km from the checkpoint, have an area of at least 3 thousand square meters, a hard surface, markings, electronic accounting, and video surveillance. The maximum cost of parking services will be limited to 5 thousand drams (about $14). Priority in crossing the border will be given to carriers of perishable goods, special cargo, humanitarian supplies, and vehicles of authorized economic operators.
