Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the severe wear and tear of the country's water supply system and the need for significant investments after cases of intestinal infection in the city of Byureghavan.
According to the head of government, the problem lies not only in updating the infrastructure, but also in its constant technical maintenance. Without regular control and operation, even investments in modernization will not be able to completely eliminate the risks of recurrence of such situations.
Pashinyan noted that the management of such risks is partially taken into account when forming water supply tariffs, but the issue requires special attention. At the same time, the Prime Minister stated that he does not yet have full information about the causes of the incident and final conclusions can only be drawn after the investigation is completed.
Earlier it was reported about the hospitalization of residents of Byureghavan due to intestinal infection. The National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Armenia reported that common coliform bacteria were found in two re-sampled drinking water samples. According to the agency, their presence may indicate water contamination and increase the risk of intestinal infectious diseases.
