Armenian Parliament member from the "Civil Contract" faction Arman Yeghoyan stated that the operational life of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant is determined by technical parameters, not by decisions of individual states.
According to him, the established maximum physical operational life of the plant is 2036. He noted that this period cannot be changed at the initiative of the governments of Armenia, Azerbaijan, or other countries.
The statement came in response to the words of the President of Azerbaijan that the Armenian NPP should be closed in the future. Yeghoyan emphasized that issues of nuclear facility operation are regulated by technical norms and international agreements.
The MP also reported that Armenia continues to work on the project of building a new nuclear power plant and is negotiating with international partners. According to him, relevant provisions are also reflected in the agreement between Armenia and the European Union, signed in 2017.
At the same time, Yeghoyan noted that the development of energy ties, the expansion of electricity import and export capabilities are separate issues and are not directly related to the future of the operating NPP.
