As of June 30, 2026, Armenia's state debt amounted to 5.12 trillion drams, compared to 5.30 trillion drams at the end of 2025. Thus, in the first six months, the indicator in national currency decreased by 3.5%. In dollar terms, the state debt amounted to about $13.9 billion and changed only slightly due to currency fluctuations.

Minister of Finance Vahe Hovhannisyan noted that the authorities somewhat deviated from the initial plan for attracting new loans. The reason was the surplus budget and faster-than-expected growth in state revenues. At the same time, the issuance of government bonds continued, as it is necessary to maintain sufficient liquidity in the financial market.

In the future, the Ministry of Finance intends to pay special attention to medium-term borrowings. This approach, according to Hovhannisyan, should give the authorities more opportunities to manage state debt servicing costs and make the debt burden more predictable.
