Armenia and Germany have agreed to cooperate in the investigation of aviation accidents and serious incidents. A memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed by representatives of the relevant division of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia and the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU), the Armenian ministry's press service reported.
The document provides for enhanced cooperation on civil aviation safety and incident prevention. Under the agreement, the German side will, if necessary, provide support to Armenia, from the use of specialized equipment to the decoding and analysis of flight data and audio recordings of flight recorders. It also refers to access to technical laboratories and advice on airworthiness, air navigation and aerodrome infrastructure.
It is noted that cooperation with the BFU fits into the implementation of the Armenian government's program for 2021-2026. In particular, it concerns the strengthening of the institutional capacity of the body responsible for the investigation of aviation accidents and bringing its work into line with international standards. The authorities expect that the partnership with Germany will increase the level of training and confidence in the country's aviation safety system.
