The Armenian authorities plan to implement a unified traffic management system in Yerevan, which is expected to help reduce congestion levels. This was stated by the republic's Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan.

According to him, comprehensive traffic management is planned for the central part of the capital using modern software that will make it possible to redistribute transport flows more efficiently. A working group formed on the instructions of the prime minister has already identified the key objectives of the first stage and developed a plan of short-term, medium-term, and long-term measures.

Khachatryan noted that the problem of overloaded roads is typical of all major cities and is directly linked to rising household incomes and an increase in the number of private cars. Over time, he emphasized, cities reach a balance: the vehicle fleet continues to grow, but drivers begin to realize that under conditions of constant traffic jams, private transport is not always convenient. At the same time, it is also necessary to improve the quality of public transport in parallel.

"All this must happen simultaneously so that in the medium term we can record a sustainable result," the deputy prime minister stressed.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in turn, stated the need to create institutional mechanisms for traffic management, including through the use of artificial intelligence technologies.

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan added that the number of passenger cars in the city continues to increase rapidly, and this situation requires constant and systemic solutions. As priority measures, he named the introduction of "smart" traffic lights with AI elements — the implementation of this project will take about a year and a half. The second step will be the purchase of 250 articulated buses 18 meters long, which will complete the implementation of the strategy for the development of ground public transport.

The third key element of the program, according to Avinyan, will be the construction of the new "Ajapnyak" metro station, which will make it possible to increase subway passenger traffic by approximately 22%.
