Armenia Introduces AI into Schools: by 2030, 80% of Students Will Study Artificial Intelligence

Pilot programs already cover hundreds of teachers and more than 600 schoolchildren

Armenia is among the few countries where artificial intelligence is being actively integrated into school education. As Minister of Education Zhanna Andreasyan stated at the EducAItion 2026 conference in Israel, the country has pilot courses and programs in place, including "Generation AI," STEP.AI, and AI Generation, which cover students' path from school to postgraduate education.

At present, the projects are being implemented in dozens of schools with the participation of hundreds of teachers and more than 600 students. The programs are being developed jointly with the IT sector and are aimed not only at programming and mathematics, but also at developing AI literacy, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. At the same time, Armenia's universities are strengthening workforce training in the field of AI.

Special attention is being paid to TUMO, where a generative AI program is being launched. By the end of the decade, modules on artificial intelligence are planned to be introduced in more than 80% of the country's schools. The main goal is to prepare a generation that will create AI technologies rather than merely use them.
