Armenian-American startup DeepSat became the main contractor for the U.S. Missile Defense Agency

The company is creating the "Orion Belt" satellite constellation in very low Earth orbit

Founded in Armenia in the fall of 2024, DeepSat obtained prime contractor status under the U.S. Missile Defense Agency's large-scale SHIELD IDIQ contract worth up to $151 billion. The contract is intended for the implementation of innovative technologies to protect U.S. territory and strengthen national security.

SHIELD (Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense) covers tasks ranging from space and AI solutions to integrated defense systems. As the lead contractor, DeepSat will apply its developments in orbital AI, satellite analytics, and real-time space systems, supporting the operational needs of the Missile Defense Agency.

The company's CEO and co-founder, Nerses Oganyan, called this selection a "key milestone," noting the trust in the startup's technologies and their approach to creating next-generation defense solutions. The contract has an IDIQ format, so funding will depend on specific orders within the program. DeepSat continues to develop a low Earth orbit satellite constellation with onboard AI, providing high-frequency monitoring and data analysis for security and emergency response tasks.

DeepSat is creating the "Orion Belt" satellite constellation in very low Earth orbit (VLEO, ~250 km) for real-time Earth observation. The company uses AI for onboard data processing, targeting defense and commercial purposes.
