Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that when choosing a partner country for the construction of a new nuclear power plant, the authorities will be guided by the compliance of proposals with the strategic interests of the republic. The decision to build a new nuclear power plant must be made before the end of the extended service life of the Metsamor station until 2046.

Currently, projects with Russia, the USA, France, China, and South Korea are being discussed. Pashinyan noted that it is necessary to carefully study the nuclear energy market in the long term and choose a proposal that best meets the interests of the country.

According to the Prime Minister, electricity from the Metsamor nuclear power plant remains the cheapest in the national energy system. All key issues related to the new station will be subjected to a comprehensive analysis to ensure the strategic security and economic efficiency of the project.
