Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk announced the start of negotiations with Yerevan on the restoration of two railway sections with a total length of about 14 km, connecting Armenia with Azerbaijan and Turkey. The first section will pass through the village of Yeraskh to Azerbaijan, the second - in the area of Akhuryan to Turkey. During the negotiations, the parties will discuss the technical and financial aspects of the project.

It is expected that the restoration of these sections will provide direct communication between Russia and Nakhichevan, Turkey and Iran, opening access to the ports of the Mediterranean Sea and the Persian Gulf. According to Overchuk, the project will become part of a broader effort to unblock transport routes in the Caucasus and strengthen logistical connectivity in the region.

The Russian side emphasizes the importance of constructive cooperation of all states of the South Caucasus for stability and economic growth. At the end of 2025, rail communication between Russia and Armenia through Azerbaijan and Georgia was resumed, which improved the conditions for the promotion of Russian goods and the development of trade between the EAEU countries.
