The Armenian government has approved a decision to develop a program to restore the Armenfilm film studio.
The state-owned block of shares has been transferred under the control of the relevant department — the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, which will be responsible for relaunching the project and forming a new development strategy.
The key element will be the creation of a modern film cluster called Armenfilm Film Production Town. It is planned to build a full-fledged infrastructure for filming and post-production, launch educational initiatives and create platforms for preserving the national film heritage.
A separate emphasis is placed on international cooperation and attracting investment, which should return the country's position in the film market. Founded in 1923, the studio, named after Amo Beknazaryan, fell into disrepair after the collapse of the USSR and has not actually worked since 2015, remaining under the control of state structures.
