Pashinyan: Armenia will not terminate the railway agreement with Russia

The right to manage railways could theoretically be transferred to a third party

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Yerevan does not plan to terminate the concession agreement with the "South Caucasus Railway" company, despite having the option to do so. According to him, discussions on this issue are ongoing, but the authorities do not intend to break the agreement.

Pashinyan emphasized that Armenia has legal leverage to revise the agreement, but such a scenario is not currently being considered. He previously discussed the topic of railway infrastructure with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

At the same time, the Prime Minister admitted that the right to manage railways could theoretically be transferred to a third party, such as Qatar, the UAE, or Kazakhstan. Currently, the network is managed by the "South Caucasus Railway" company, which is a subsidiary of Russian Railways and has been operating in Armenia under a concession since 2008 for a term of 30 years with the possibility of extension.
