The head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, said that Russia has repeatedly offered Armenia options for building new nuclear generation - both large, medium and small capacity.

According to him, the service life of the existing nuclear power plant in Armenia has been extended until 2036 after modernization, which will be carried out by Rosatom. Likhachev noted that after this period, further operation of the station may become difficult. He stressed that the Armenian government should determine the configuration of the new generation and the prospects for the development of the country's energy system.

Likhachev noted that nuclear energy is vital for Armenia, and the country has many years of experience in this area. Russia is ready to offer comfortable solutions for the construction of new units, based on decades of joint work and close relations between the countries. Earlier, the Armenian authorities announced the choice of a modular type of nuclear power plant, the specific model will be determined in 2026–2027.
