The National Assembly of Armenia has finally approved amendments to the law on audiovisual media, strengthening control over the media space. The document introduces new rules aimed at protecting information security and preventing interference in the country's internal politics.
As explained by the Minister of High-Tech Industry, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, the changes include content with calls for war and regulate the activities of telecom operators. Now, the requirements in place for the public multiplex also apply to programs broadcast by network operators.
Special attention is paid to sanctions: if violations are detected, the regulator will be able to demand the suspension of broadcasting until a final decision is made. If the operator ignores this requirement, he faces responsibility. The authorities hope that the new measures will eliminate gaps in the legislation and level the playing field for market participants.
