IT specialists pay more but earn less: the paradox of taxes in Armenia

Increased deductions hide a drop in profits for most large IT companies

In the first quarter of 2026, 78 IT companies were included in the list of 1000 largest taxpayers in Armenia. Collectively, they transferred about 28 billion drams to the budget, which is 9 billion more compared to the same period in 2025. Their contribution reached 4.4% of all revenues administered by the State Revenue Committee of Armenia.

At the same time, income tax amounted to only about 2 billion drams, with more than half provided by Digitain. This structure indicates a noticeable imbalance: the growth of total payments is not accompanied by an increase in business profitability.

Moreover, most industry leaders experienced a decline in profits. Among the 20 largest IT taxpayers, a decrease was recorded for 16 companies, including KEH Armenia, Synopsys Armenia, and Nexters Studio Armenia. This indicates an increase in burden and a possible margin squeeze amid changing market conditions.
