Small Countries Go on the Offensive: In the Era of AI, They Can Overtake Giants

Armenian Minister Explained Why the Future of Technology Depends Not on Scale, But on Energy and Brains

Armenian Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan stated in a column for Forbes that the development of artificial intelligence is changing the usual rules of global competition. If previously resources and industrial scale played a key role, now energy, computing power, and human capital are coming to the forefront.

In his opinion, small countries get a chance to occupy advantageous positions due to narrow specialization. Instead of competing with large powers in all directions, they can focus on specific niches – from software development to applied solutions in the field of artificial intelligence. As an example, he cites Armenia, where data centers, STEM education, and engineering ecosystems are actively developing.

Hayrapetyan believes that the combination of affordable energy, developed infrastructure, and qualified specialists will be the foundation of success in the new technological era. As a result, innovations will increasingly appear not only in large countries but also in small economies capable of quickly occupying key niches in the global AI market.
