Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that when implementing the project for a new nuclear power plant, the authorities will not be guided by political considerations. According to him, the key factors will be economic feasibility, as well as the long-term sustainability and profitability of the future facility.

He emphasized that Armenia is ready to consider proposals from various countries, including the USA, Russia, China, France, and South Korea, if they prove to be the most beneficial. Thus, the choice of partner will be determined solely by the project parameters, and not by foreign policy orientation.

Currently, the country is discussing options for replacing the existing Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, located in the Metsamor region and providing a significant portion of electricity. The authorities plan to build a new power unit within the next 8–10 years, considering various technological solutions and proposals from international companies.

The Armenian side is already considering a preliminary feasibility study for the construction of a new 1200 MW unit, developed by the state corporation Rosatom.
