The Armenian government has decided to simplify the procedure for issuing permits for the construction of data centers intended for the development of artificial intelligence technologies. The changes concern the procedures for state examination of urban planning documentation and are aimed at accelerating the implementation of large digital projects.

Expert opinions can now be submitted before the completion of a full environmental impact assessment of the facilities. This will allow administrative procedures to be carried out in parallel and reduce the overall approval time for data center construction, which is especially important for AI infrastructure with high deployment speed.

The authorities note that the measure is aimed at increasing the investment attractiveness of the sector and developing the digital economy. The simplification of procedures should stimulate the emergence of new data centers and accelerate the implementation of artificial intelligence-based solutions in the country.
