Co-founder of CyberHUB-AM and information security specialist Artur Papyan announced that he had sent a request to Team Telecom Armenia asking for additional technical details of the agreement with the Azerbaijani operator AzerTelecom.
Earlier, Telecom Armenia announced the signing of an agreement on the transit of internet traffic between Armenia and Azerbaijan on a commercial basis, which caused widespread discussion in the professional community.
According to Papyan, two opposing interpretations have formed around the topic: one suggests increased control by Azerbaijan, the other — an increase in mutual dependence of the parties. He stressed that both versions are not yet supported by sufficient technical arguments.
The expert noted that Armenia already plays the role of a regional transit hub, and a significant part of internet traffic passes through international routes, including directions through Iran to Middle Eastern countries, without affecting local networks.
He also drew attention to the development of Team Telecom Armenia itself, including investments in foreign assets and security audits as part of international deals. According to him, this reduces the risks of user data leaks.
Papyan urged to wait for technical clarifications from the operator, emphasizing that it is premature to draw conclusions about the nature of the agreement without full information.
