Information security expert Samvel Martirosyan stated that the agreement between Team Telecom Armenia and the Azerbaijani operator AzerTelecom could lead to the formation of mutual infrastructural dependence between the two countries. According to him, this is not just about commercial internet transit, but also about creating new stable digital connections in the region.
Earlier, Telecom Armenia announced the signing of an agreement on the transmission of internet traffic through the territories of both countries. Martirosyan noted that, in fact, this could involve the appearance of two parallel cable routes along the border, which strengthens the mutual technical interconnectedness of the infrastructure.
According to the expert, such projects create a new reality in which Armenia becomes an important transit hub between the "North-South" and "East-West" directions. A significant part of regional traffic already passes through the country, and the share of internal channel usage is relatively small. At the same time, he emphasized that such schemes also provide a practical advantage – an additional backup route in case of disruptions in neighboring countries, allowing faster redirection of traffic between communication nodes.
