The Armenian authorities plan to launch a pilot project for the production of "green" hydrogen. The corresponding instruction was given by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan following a government meeting dedicated to the development of this area and the assessment of its prospects for the country's energy system.
During the discussion, the results of the work of the specialized group under the Investment Committee were presented, as well as the conclusions of consulting companies BDO Advisory and CIVITTA. Experts considered possible applications of hydrogen, approaches to forming a regulatory framework, and scenarios for the industry's development – from short-term to long-term.
Special attention was paid to issues of energy decarbonization and emission reduction as part of the transition to "green" taxonomy. Following the meeting, the need for practical implementation of a pilot project with the involvement of the scientific community and the use of international experience was emphasized. The government was instructed to prepare a detailed report on further steps.
