Armenia intends to find a solution for the concessionary management of its railway network that will unlock the country's transit potential while preserving the interests of Russian partners. This was stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan.

According to him, unblocking regional communications gives Armenia a chance to become an important link in routes between East and West. However, potential partners are wary of using the railway while it is under Russian concession.

Yerevan proposed to Moscow to consider transferring concession rights to a third party acceptable to both countries. Mirzoyan named Kazakhstan as one of the options. Initially, the Russian side reacted coolly to the idea, but in recent days there have been signals of readiness to discuss the proposal.

At the same time, Armenia expects to accelerate the modernization of railway infrastructure and rolling stock. Within the framework of TRIPP, the construction of the Gyumri–Kars and Yeraskh sections is planned. Yerevan wants to implement these projects as soon as possible and has already received a signal from the Russian side about its readiness to discuss related issues.
