As of June 30, 2026, Armenia's public debt amounted to 5.12 trillion drams, compared to 5.30 trillion drams at the end of 2025. Thus, in the first six months, the indicator in national currency decreased by 3.5%. In dollar terms, the public debt was about $13.9 billion and changed only slightly due to currency fluctuations.

Finance Minister Vahe Hovhannisyan noted that the authorities somewhat deviated from the initial plan to attract new loans. The reason was a budget surplus and faster-than-expected growth in state revenues. At the same time, the issuance of government bonds continued, as it is necessary to maintain sufficient liquidity in the financial market.

Going forward, the Ministry of Finance intends to pay special attention to medium-term borrowing. This approach, according to Hovhannisyan, should give the authorities more opportunities to manage public debt servicing costs and make the debt burden more predictable.
