Rosatom State Corporation continues its cooperation with Armenia on the Nairit project, which involves eliminating the consequences of the operation of the synthetic rubber plant of the same name. This was announced by the head of the company, Alexey Likhachev, at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In parallel, Rosatom is participating in work at the Armenian NPP. The station is located near Metsamor and remains one of the key sources of electricity in the country, providing up to 40% of its generation. The operational life of the current power unit is being extended, while the Armenian side is considering options for further development of nuclear generation.

Armenia plans to build a new NPP within 8–10 years and is currently studying proposals from the USA, Russia, China, France, and South Korea. In particular, Rosatom has prepared a preliminary feasibility study for the construction of a new 1200 MW unit. The company is also ready to offer reactor units with capacities ranging from 50 to 1000 MW.
The Nairit project involves the disposal of about 13 thousand tons of hazardous waste remaining on the territory of the enterprise closed in 1989. The plant was one of the largest producers of synthetic rubber in the USSR.
