"Zvartnots" Awaits Major Expansion: a Second Terminal to Be Built in Yerevan

The airport is being prepared for passenger traffic growth and transformation into a regional hub

A second terminal will appear at Yerevan's "Zvartnots" airport. This was announced by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan while presenting the program of the Civil Contract party. According to him, the project is becoming inevitable amid growing passenger traffic and increasing pressure on infrastructure.

The prime minister noted that until 2033, the airport's capacity is planned to increase annually. At present, "Zvartnots" is operating at the limit of its capabilities: during peak hours, the situation is comparable to traffic jams in central Yerevan, and passenger service is taking place under considerable strain.

At the same time, the airport's concessionaire, Armenia - International Airports, had previously announced plans to invest about $500 million over 10 years. The project provides for doubling the terminal's area, expanding arrival and departure zones, as well as increasing the number of boarding gates from 6 to 16 in order to strengthen Armenia's status as the region's aviation hub.
