Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the possible construction of a new toll road that could connect the western and eastern transit routes through the country. According to him, the initiative is being promoted by international investors interested in creating a shorter route for cargo transportation.

This refers to a possible transport corridor that could pass through the Tavush, Lori, and Shirak regions. Investors, as the Prime Minister noted, are ready to finance the project provided it is economically feasible, expecting that shortening the route will make toll travel profitable for international cargo carriers. An analysis of possible road alignments is currently underway.

Pashinyan also emphasized that, in parallel, the option of restoring railway communication in the east-west direction is being considered. Among the necessary steps, he named the elimination of a landslide in the Haghartsin village area, the connection of individual railway branches, and the leveling of difficult terrain sections. According to estimates, the implementation of individual infrastructure solutions may require investments of about $500 million, but the project is considered potentially profitable due to transit flows.
