The European Union is preparing a support package for Armenia worth over 50 million euros. This was announced by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, after a phone call with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
According to the head of the European Commission, one of the main topics of the negotiations was the recent restrictions imposed by Russia on Armenian products. Von der Leyen called such actions economic pressure and stated that using trade relations as a tool for political influence is unacceptable. In response, the EU intends to provide Armenia with urgent financial support.
The aid package includes not only funding but also measures to simplify the supply of certain Armenian goods to the European market, including agri-food products. Additional support will be provided to sectors that have already faced the consequences of restrictions, particularly floriculture. Furthermore, in the long term, Brussels intends to develop a partnership with Yerevan in the field of transport connectivity, which should strengthen Armenia's ties with Europe, the countries of the South Caucasus, and Central Asia.
