The Cyber Police of Armenia has warned Instagram* (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) and WhatsApp users about a new wave of fraudulent messages related to the alleged need to change an account password. Attackers send fake notifications, trying to convince users to follow a link and provide login details.
The department reminded that with certain account settings, Meta (recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) can indeed send Instagram* password change notifications via WhatsApp. This is what scammers exploit, copying the appearance of official messages and misleading users.
The Cyber Police recommends not to follow links or enter login, password, or other confidential information if a password change message arrived unexpectedly and the user did not initiate such a procedure themselves. Experts emphasize that vigilance remains the main way to protect accounts from compromise and data theft.
