Emergency services in Armenia to be unified under the number 112

Authorities plan to abandon separate police and rescue numbers

Armenia plans to introduce a single emergency call number — 112. It should replace the currently used numbers 102, 911 and 101. The bill on amendments to the Law "On Police" was presented in the National Assembly by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia Armen Mkrtchyan.

As the Deputy Minister explained, there are currently different telephone numbers for different emergency situations, which forces citizens to decide for themselves where to call. This creates difficulties both for the population and for the services themselves, since response management and information exchange between departments remain fragmented. The authorities intend to create a simpler and more effective system for alerting and responding to emergencies, accidents and offenses.

The project envisages the creation of a single control center within the structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and a new Department of Operational Management, which will operate around the clock and receive all emergency calls. The national centers for operational management of the police and rescue service are planned to be abolished, transferring their technical systems to the new department. Numbers 102, 911 and 101 will continue to operate during the transition period, but all calls will be automatically redirected to 112, after which the old numbers will be completely withdrawn from circulation. One of the advantages of 112 will be the ability to automatically determine the location of the caller.
