Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan proposed to the parliamentary opposition to create a working group and explore the possibility of banning anonymous accounts on social media. The initiative was voiced on August 25 during the discussion of the government's program for 2026–2031.

The reason was a question from Harutyun Harutyunyan, a deputy of the opposition "Strong Armenia" faction, about measures to combat disinformation and so-called "fake factories" operating within the country.

Pashinyan proposed involving both opposition factions in the discussion. In his opinion, if political consensus is reached, a law could be adopted that would oblige users to undergo identification before creating a social media account.

Thus, the authorities are considering the possibility of effectively abandoning anonymity in the Armenian segment of social networks. The Prime Minister stated that after the introduction of such rules, it would be possible to better understand who is behind the dissemination of fake information.
