The Armenian government is discussing the possibility of introducing age restrictions on social media use for minors. This was stated by Sargis Khandanyan, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan proposed to the opposition to form a working group to discuss a ban on anonymous accounts and prepare relevant legislation. Khandanyan called the initiative positive and noted that a possible restriction on minors' access to social media could also be useful.

However, the deputy expressed doubts about the effectiveness of the future law. According to him, pre-election investigations showed that the services of so-called "fake news factories," which the opposition allegedly actively uses, are provided from outside Armenia.

As a result, national restrictions may not affect some of these activities, as the associated accounts and infrastructure are outside the country's jurisdiction.

Thus, the Armenian authorities are simultaneously considering several directions for regulating social media – from age restrictions for minors to a possible ban on anonymous accounts. However, the question of the practical effectiveness of such measures remains open for now.
