Starting from January 2029, Armenia plans to launch a digital system for state control over mining enterprises. This was announced by the head of the Environmental and Subsoil Protection Inspection Body, Hovhannes Martirosyan, at the Mining Armenia Forum 2026 in Tsaghkadzor. According to him, the existing oversight mechanisms need modernization, taking into account the specific risks of the industry.
As Martirosyan noted, potential violations are often identified only during inspection checks. This makes it difficult to prevent them in a timely manner. Among other problems, he highlighted the reliability of the initial data used to assess the activities of enterprises, as well as the documentation of the consequences of their work.

The new system provides for online collection of monitoring information and analysis of incoming data for decision-making within the framework of state supervision. It is expected that digitalization will improve control with an emphasis on risk assessment and prevention of violations. Earlier, the agency had already approved a digitalization concept providing for the development of such mechanisms.
