The Port of Hamburg has expressed interest in participating in the project to create a "dry port" in the Armenian city of Gyumri. This was announced by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, commenting on the results of meetings in Germany. According to him, the port's management confirmed their interest in the project, which has noticeably increased against the backdrop of discussed regional initiatives and transport corridors.
Pashinyan noted that negotiations with representatives of Hamburg's business community allowed for the discussion of "quite substantial topics" and the formation of a concrete agenda for further cooperation. The Armenian authorities hope that the participation of one of Europe's largest ports will give the project additional international weight and accelerate its implementation.
Previously, the Armenian government announced its readiness to invest about $37 million in the creation of a "dry port" in Gyumri. According to the concept, the facility will be integrated with the "Shirak" international airport, the railway, and the "North–South" transport corridor. The project involves the formation of a free economic zone, logistics hubs, production sites, and an international food market, which should turn the Shirak region into a multifunctional industrial and logistics center.
