Armenia is gaining significant savings thanks to the supply of gasoline and diesel fuel from Azerbaijan. Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan reported that increasing the volume of supplies to 6-7 thousand tons will reduce December fuel prices by an average of about 80 drams per liter.
According to Papoyan's estimate, the total benefit for the country's economy may reach 16.4 billion drams (about 43 million dollars), including savings for farmers on the purchase of diesel in the spring. Previously, imports were limited to small volumes, and now supplies have become stable and diverse in terms of brands - Premium and Regular.
The minister noted that the reduction in prices on the domestic market is also stimulated by other importers who are revising wholesale prices with their suppliers. At the same time, he ruled out the threat of Armenia's mono-dependence on Azerbaijani fuel - the country will continue to import from Romania, Georgia, Russia and Egypt.
Expanding routes and sources of supply helps strengthen the competitiveness of the economy. According to Papoyan, overcoming restrictions, such as closed borders, reduces the cost of imports and increases the efficiency of exports.
In addition to petroleum products, other goods continue to arrive in Armenia through the territory of Azerbaijan. Thus, by January 8, 2026, more than 8.4 thousand tons of Russian grain had been delivered, another 4 thousand tons are on the way, and the volume of Azerbaijani fuel already amounts to about 7.6 thousand tons.
