AI, deepfakes, and cyber threats: Minister tells schoolchildren about digital risks and new opportunities

A large-scale meeting was held in Dilijan with the participation of more than 300 students and cybersecurity experts

The final event of the cybersecurity awareness campaign took place at the Dilijan Central School, with the participation of the Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan. The meeting was attended by more than 300 schoolchildren from Dilijan, Hovk, Teghut, Haghartsin, and Gosh. At the beginning of the event, students took a special survey to test their knowledge of cybersecurity, phishing, and online risks.

Addressing the schoolchildren, the Minister spoke about the key challenges of the digital age, paying special attention to the risks and opportunities associated with the use of artificial intelligence. He touched upon the spread of deepfakes, disinformation, and emphasized the importance of developing digital skills as an integral part of modern education and safe behavior on the Internet. Personal data protection expert Gevorg Hayrapetyan presented mechanisms for protecting personal information and the capabilities of the "CyberChat" platform, created to support children and adolescents.

As part of the event, specialists from AM-CERT and Fab Lab Armenia conducted interactive sessions, games, and discussions, and demonstrated practical solutions in the field of cybersecurity, including a USB Shield device to protect against malicious drives. Participants were shown examples of the positive use of AI in education and taught how to recognize materials created with its help. In conclusion, the schoolchildren answered questions, which made it possible to assess the level of knowledge acquisition. The campaign is being implemented with the support of relevant departments and is aimed at creating a safer and more responsible online environment.
